About the Lodge: King George V Lodge, No 498 was formed by a group of ardent masons in the area. They rented rooms over Shield's General Store which is located on the main street. The cost of rent was $30 for six months rent, heat, and coal; oil for the lamps was extra.

The first meeting was held August 15th, 1910 under the dispensation of the Grand Master R.W. Bro. D.F. Macwatt and was opening in due form at 8:25PM by the D.D.G.M. R.W. Bro. J.B. Bagg of Faithful Brethren Lodge No. 77, Lindsay and assisted by the officers of various lodges in the district.

The first Master of the lodge was Rev. A.B. Chafee 1910-1912. The lodge was dedicated Monday November 11th, 1911. On June 7th, 1976, King George V Lodge had taken occupancy of its new lodge building located on Grandy Street in Coboconk.

Through much hard work by many brethren the new lodge building was made ready for the regular meeting. W.Bro. Morley McKague presided over conferring of the fellowcraft degree for Bro. Michael Saunders a member of Faithful Brethren Lodge in Lindsay. This was a proud night for the officers and brethren of King George V Lodge to showcase their new Temple even though not totally completed.

On Thursday, June 17th, 1976 R.W. Bro. William Fairley, the Grand Lodge Chaplin of Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario delivered the address for the ceremony of laying of the date stone.

A brief history and highlights taken from the minutes of King George V lodge as compiled by R.W. Bro. Morley McKague.
